Starting to Pivot My Resume
As part of this whole process of doing a late-career pivot, I need to figure out how to position my resume. My career has been focused on software, e-commerce, software testing, quality assurance, project management and team management. So now, I need to dig through that and emphasize all the ways my experience is relevant in the data science space.
Thnking about it, there’s actually quite a lot that is significant. Obviously, I’ve done presentations to all levels of people from C-suite executives to business folks and individual contributors on various technical teams. I’ve driven projects end to end. I’ve done some development as part of my job back when I was an SDET. As a manager, I manage a ton of data for KPIs, including looking at trends and analyzing them. I have designed and implemented tests to validate data, some of it considered sensitive (PII, payment, health related, all subject to a variety of regulations). I’ve worked with Power BI, various flavors of SQL and NoSQL, a smidgeon of Tableau.
Yup, I have material to work with. Now, to figure out how to present it in a way that will appeal to recruiters and hiring managers!
